  • Client - London Borough of Hillingdon
  • Project size - 1,071m²
  • Full Turnkey solution
  • Building Bulletin Compliant
  • Secured by Design
  • Completion - 30 weeks

Meadow High School expanded their Secondary School to include a bespoke Sixth Form SEN Facility. Module-AR Limited were awarded the contract to manufacture and install a 1,071m² 2 storey building including a Common room, Assembly Hall, Salon, Fitness Suite, 8 No. Classrooms, a Head of Sixth Form Office, Work room, WC's, disabled toilet & shower room, locker spaces, 2 No. staircases, a DDA compliant passenger lift, Plant room and Cleaner cupboards.

Internally the Classrooms, Offices, Work room, Fitness Suite and Assembly Hall were fitted with carpet tiles for maximum comfort whereas the WC's, Corridors, Salon, Plant room and Cleaners' cupboard had polysafe vinyl flooring for easy cleaning and maintenance. Suspended ceilings were installed throughout and PIR lighting was fitted to maximise sustainability. Module-AR Limited consider building safety to be extremely important, therefore the building complied with 'Secured by Design', maglocks were fitted to all doors in the corridors & stairwells, finger guards were fitted to all internal doors and the pipework was boxed-in to all toilet areas.

Externally, the structure is clad in Plastisol (plastic coated steel) fitted horizontally to imitate the appearance of Trespa cladding at a fraction of the cost. The Architect had chosen the varying cladding colours of navy, ocean blue, Wedgewood blue, pigeon grey and white to create a stylish and modern building - perfect for a brand new Sixth Form facility. The projecting fascia is navy Plastisol and the PCA (powder coated aluminium) windows & external doors were coloured navy, white and ocean blue to match the external cladding along with 3 No. entrance door canopies in Wedgewood blue.

Module-AR Limited delivered and installed the building during the February half term to minimise any disruption to the school schedule, with the full project taking just 30 weeks to complete.

Words from the client

Ross MacDonald, Headteacher of Meadow High School, stated: "As Headteacher of Meadow High School I can happily endorse the work undertaken by Module-AR Ltd. From the design stage, cutting the first turf, watching the building arrive and be assembled, the quality of workmanship and the grand opening to many smiling faces this is a true success story.

We are so pleased with our new modular 6th form. The pupils, staff and parents are all delighted with the building. Thank you so much for your support which has helped us to complete this project in a limited amount of time and with a tight budget. Module-AR Ltd are a professional company where the client matters and the product is first rate including support going forward for even small matters."

These kind words from Mr MacDonald were supported by the project manager, Bob Phillips, on behalf of Meadow High School: "Module-AR were principal contractor and it was evident from the first design coordination meeting that the focus was on the entire project at all times. Guidelines were identified early for a building to be delivered to quality, to cost and to programme.

The 1,070m² of building on 2 floors has transformed the delivery of the curriculum at the school not only for the pupils but staff and parents with a very big WOW factor.

The programme was tight, the budget was capped, agreed by all consultants, and was met at all times. Site supervision with Health & Safety arrangements were carried out in a professional manner which was clearly visible to all visitors and consultants.

The two-way dialogue for the project was paramount. Module-AR Sales and Design office staff were patient and never wilted providing careful guidance as to the various options available to the school at all times.

Again I must stress that this building has transformed the outlook of the school, if and when funds become available we would look forward to working with you in the future."
