Biffa Waste, St Helens
Biffa’s new site in St Helens occupies a 4.2 hectare site. The site currently operates as a depot for the Collection division and the Special Waste division, with fourteen Refuse Collection Vehicles and six Tankers based there. Biffa has plans to extend the site and develop a Resource Management Centre which would incorporate a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), recycling bays, vehicle depot, offices, Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) parking and fuelling, HGV cleaning, container storage, weighbridges and car parking.
To enable the new site to operate Biffa required a modular office building for nine staff and welfare facilities for up to 30 drivers and operatives. The modular buildings included 4 general offices, traffic / delivery office, meeting room, canteen, lockers and changing facilities, showers and wc facilities.
A modular building was chosen for the site due to the speed of erection compared to that of a traditional building. As Module-AR are a preferred supplier to Biffa the contract to supply the facility was negotiated and successfully awarded. Additionally, as the planning permission for the site buildings is temporary, a modular building offers the flexibility to relocate, remove or modify the existing building to suit Biffa’s future needs.
